The Port of Algeciras Bay and the semi-automated terminal in Isla Verde Exterior, TTI Algeciras, will once again position as a benchmark in traffics with the Far East thanks to the start of a new service belonging to “THE Alliance” in June, alliance composed by HMM, Ocean Network Express (ONE), Hapag Lloyd and Yang Ming.
The new Far East 4 service will connect ports in South Korea, China and Northern Europe with Algeciras and will include the “Algeciras” Class containerships headed by the flagship of the South Korean shipping company, the HMM Algeciras, the largest containership in the world with a maximum capacity of 23,964 TEU in its 400 meters length and 61 meters beam.
Representatives of HMM in Spain, Philip Lee and Jose Miguel Tortajada, and TTI Algeciras, Alonso Luque and Sangmin Yi, symbolized the start of this new regular service with the delivery to the Chairman of the Algeciras Port Authority, Gerardo Landaluce, of a 1/250 scale and 180 cm long replica of the HMM Algeciras. It will be this year when the vessel that carries the name of Algeciras and its port around the world will call, for the first time, in the Port of the Strait of Gibraltar on its route to Northern Europe.
