€150 million investment to expand the terminal, reinforcing its role as a strategic common-user facility at the Port of Algeciras Bay.

TTI Algeciras has officially submitted its expansion project for development on Phase B of Isla Verde Exterior to the Port Authority of Algeciras Bay (APBA). The initiative covers an additional 160,000 square meters and involves a planned investment of €15 0 million, which will allow the terminal to add up to half million TEU to reach 2,1 million TEU handling capacity. In addition, this investment allows the concession period to be extended until 2065, which significantly strengthens the company’s long-term prospects.

Since handling its first vessel on May 5, 2010, becoming the first semi-automated terminal in the Mediterranean and Southern Europe, TTI Algeciras has moved nearly 18 million TEU, a milestone that will be surpassed this year. This trajectory has helped consolidate the Port of Algeciras as not only a major transshipment hub in Southern Europe, but also as a key gateway for import and export flows across mainland Spain.

Located on the European shore of the Strait of Gibraltar, TTI Algeciras is a strategic terminal for its main shareholders, the South Korean shipping line HMM (50% plus 1 share) and since February 2021 the CMA CGM Group (50% minus 1 share) a global player in sea, land, air and logistics solutions, who is also historically its major customer. Every week, the terminal welcomes some of the largest container vessels in the world, including the HMM Algeciras (23,964 TEU) and CMA CGM’s 23,000 TEU LNG-powered containerships such as CMA CGM Jacques Saadé.

This expansion fits fully into our strategic roadmap to develop sustainable, resilient, and high-capacity maritime infrastructure in the Strait of Gibraltar.
