The terminal strengthens the digitalization of its landside access with an innovative solution to improve operational efficiency and predictability

TTI ALGECIRAS has initiated the implementation of a Truck Appointment System (TAS), becoming the first container terminal in Spain to adopt a real and structured digital solution for landside access management.

The TAS enables advance planning of truck flows, reducing waiting times and optimizing gate capacity and terminal resources. Appointments are managed at vehicle level, linked to license plates and automatically validated upon arrival. The system provides monitoring of appointment compliance, no-shows, cancellations and peak hours, supported by quality indicators that promote continuous operational improvement.

This initiative forms part of a broader series of measures progressively introduced by the terminal to enhance gate operations in the last years. These include the recent launch of the VGM gate weighing service, as well as several system upgrades aimed at strengthening process efficiency of landside activities.

Transport orders remain unchanged, with the TAS acting as an additional digital layer addressed exclusively to transport companies. Appointments will be requested through a simple and user-friendly application, valid for a specific time 30-minutes window and allowing the management of more than one transport order during the same visit.

The platform is already successfully operating at several Northern European terminals with significantly higher gate traffic volumes than in our port, providing a solid reference for its deployment in the Port of Algeciras Bay.

The project has been developed in cooperation with passify, a German technology company specialized in digital solutions for truck flow coordination at container terminals. With a strong focus on operational efficiency and data-driven management, passify brings extensive experience from first-class container terminals. Through this initiative, the company enters the Spanish market alongside TTI ALGECIRAS, contributing its international expertise to the strategic hub on the shores of the Strait of Gibraltar.

The implementation has also benefited from the active involvement of the Algeciras Bay Container Transport Association (ATCBA) and its member companies, whose support and participation during first testing and fine-tuning has been key to adapting the system to the real operational needs of the Port of Algeciras Bay.
